Matt Mallinder gave an update on the re-brand project. Campfire had been selected from a shortlist of three. Matt reported that the inception meeting would happen shortly and a timetable for the project developed. He gave assurances that the project would not be rushed with a proposed brand likely in the autumn and roll our ready for spring 2016. Barry Flood was concerned that the re-brand would be delivered as a ‘fait accompli’ to council. Matt Mallinder reported that whilst this was a staff led process, councillors would be involved as part of the stakeholder engagement/research process and that the project plan included key milestones/checkpoints whereby everyone would be aware of the decisions made before the next step would be embarked upon. Jim Brown requested the project brief.
Action point 2: Rebrand Project plan, project brief and timetable to be brought to June 17th Operations committee

(My bold) And the relevant thing to me is that the councillors/everyone will be made aware of decisions - which is not the same as having input to those decisions nor that anybody (other than "staff") has the power to stop the decisions made by staff. So in effect it is a "fait accompli" except that people will be told each step of the "fait accompli" as it happens.

Which is a shame as I always believe that any idea can be improved by discussing widely with others.

Ian

Edit: Sorry, I'm making the same point as thirdcrank (and others) have already made - I posted my response on reading the minutes before reading through other subsequent posts)

I always wonder about the costs for such things. How much were the previous set of consultants paid (presumably their work now discarded as a new lot of consultants have been engaged). How much are the new consultants being paid. So take those sums and divide it by the membership fee so how many members have had their contributions spend on a marketing exercise rather than campaigning to make things better for cyclists.

Is the term CTC really restricting the campaigning activities of the organisation. Is it's logo such a disaster that people are deciding not to contribute and not to listen to them because of the design/logo/"CTC". Maybe money better spent on improving things for cyclists rather than marketing and PR Consultants.

I'm really really surprised that Matt M said that the project wouldn't be rushed.

Well it's taken two years since the public announcement of a re-brand exercise to get this far, doesn't seem like a rush to me. Are we in for a sprint finish?

Edit 17/8/15:

New Zealand is undergoing a re-branding exercise at the moment, well deciding upon a new National Flag. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_Zealand_flag_debate

From 10,293 suggestions they've already whittled it down to 40 and will go on to present just four to the public vote at the end of the year. The most popular choice will then go up against the current flag in a new v old vote early in 2016.

Estimated cost of rebranding NZ$25.7m, assuming that a new flag wins.

Edit 6/11/15:

July's Council Minutes: http://www.ctc.org.uk/sites/default/fil ... 180715.pdf

No mention of re-branding.

Edit 22/12/15: "Refresh" was on the agenda for the October Council Meeting, probably all be over by the time we get to read about it.

Edit 25/3/16: New Zealand has decided not to change the flag, that'll save them a bob or two  .

However if you are branding a new polar explorer vessel, "Boaty McBoatface" has great appeal with the British public.

Hello,
Forgive my ignorance here, but what difference does any of it mean? The MAN will always be in charge of our lives including CTC 'Charity' run for and on behalf of George Osborne and his children!

I can't wait for CTC to move into the 21st century. If you don't agree, don't renew your membership. Its a democracy ! Or are you just wanting the best cycle insurance cover? The Eurostar back pedal thanks to members pressure was fantastic. My friends were asking where was £70m pa Sustrans and £40m British Cycling. But little old CTC once again championed the real cycling agenda. Love 'em!

All good stuff what does that list have things to do with a re-brand ? Were they not possible without spending money on a name change ?
