Now we have something / quite-a-lot to discuss and celebrate.

Dauphine pic, when you've given everything & just fell short

Post by Tonyf33 »

Saw this today, Teejay van Garderin after losing yellow in the last km of the Criterium du Dauphine as Chris Froome pulled away just enough to beat him by 10 seconds overall
That's a man busted physically & mentally.

Hi,
Watched it with great interest.
Its was 50 / 50 whether Froomee would make up the 18 seconds...........and he did because he went earlier (2.5k) than the ten seconds before at 2k.
That's close 18 seconds behind and 18 seconds won on the last stage, riveting stuff and a well deserved grimace from Froome crossing the line.

Without bonuses on last stage they'ed have drawed on time, he actually only needed the 15 seconds with TJ coming second, but TJ was further back anyway.

Froomee didn't need to win he is peeking just in time for Tour.

TJ will have to take a leaf out of Froomee's training book on cadence :?: 90 - 105 opposed to TJ's 85..........................................

I'm sort of for and against bonuses, there are times when a rider has gone all out to make up time and several have wheelsucked for miles on end only to outsprint in the last few metres, there are a couple of 'specialists' whom appear to do this at all the major events but aren't actually real GC contenders. I understand that's the way it is but it still works out negatively for the one putting in all the effort whom is in a no-win situation at that point.

what the Dauphine showed was that Froome is getting back to form and TJ is pushing his nose into the fray not only for stage wins at the grand tours but also as a genuine podium contender.
