Campsite Reviews - Scotland

Post by Si »

Add campsite reviews in Scotland to this thread.

Normal review rules apply: just give us the facts, especially if it is a negative review, and try to keep the thread on topic as it's meant to be a resource and so should be easy to skim through. Perhaps we could start each post with something like:

Campsite name: <name here>
Location: <adress / grid ref>
Fees: <£££>
Facilities: <list of cycle-friendly/unfriendly facilities>
Comments: <recommended or not, with reasons>

Campsite name: Lagnaha Farm

http://www.lagnaha.co.uk/

Location: Duror, Appin, Argyll, PA38 4BS.
Fees: £4 per person
Facilities: On NCN 78, brand new showers, toilets, etc. Campers shelter/cooking area
Comments: Recommended! Good value at £4 per person. Covered 10' by 10' campers kitchen with lights, 2 ring gas cooker with grill, gas BBQ, single ring gas burner, tables and benches.

Only recently opened it is situated between the A828 and the new section of NCN 78 that is currently under construction. Very clean, good quality facilities. The site is small, it only has pitches for 5 caravans/motor homes. There is a similar sized area for tents that also has 3 gypsy caravans for rent if you don't want to camp.

Campsite name: Horgabost
Location: Horgabost, Isle of Harris, HS3 3HR

http://www.scottishcamping.com/link.php?n=385

Fees: £9 for 2 person tent per night
Facilities: Showers/toilets/dish-washing facilities/small shop
Comments: This is an absolutely beautiful and very popular location. Previously a wild camping site in the dunes the council have put in portacabin showers/toilets and now charge to camp there. The showers are on a meter but £1 is enough even if it's a woman showering. I don't mind paying for showers as the other fees are low. The shop sells a few basics like beans and UHF milk and would have been better if they'd sold fresh milk. It also sells buckets and spades and body boards for visitors to the beach.

Pitches OK, though many aren't level, the grass was fairly wet, and it was exposed to the wind.

Killiechronan, Mull
at the end of Loch na Keal, over from Salen, grid ref NM536412

very basic indeed, good level grass just behind the beach, and that's about it.
toilet and water are in a workshop about 300m down the road
a man comes round and collects £5 late afternoon
There was a burger van operating about 300m the other way when I was there.

Good for spotting eagles, and otters too if you are lucky
