Voted! Bit depressing how high the numbers in favour of compulsion are!

The trouble is there is nowhere saying how many votes have been cast (not that I could see anyway). Might be just 20 people have voted so it might be very un-representative.

Also you need to consider the normal "audience" the web site attracts. The results of any survey must depend on who you ask and with online stuff, the "audience" is to a large extent often determined by the web site itself. e.g. Start a survey about light pollution on an astronomical web site and guess what answer you will get. Start a survey about childcare costs on MumsNet and guess what answer you will get.

Final result:
Yes 32%
No 67%
Not sure 1%

267 responses

I must say, I've never met anyone who was not sure about helmet compulsion. Imagine being not sure and still taking the trouble to click. This world, full to the brim with indignant certainty, needs more people who aren't sure.

As a survey it was something of a waste of time. Apart from the low numbers for votes, such surveys are really really really easy to vote multiple times (and quick as well). All you had to do was vote, delete the Survey Monkey cookie (it placed on your system without warning), then vote again, etc.

So maybe not wroth trying to read too much into the final results.

The FINAl results with an astounding 314 responding
YES: 38%
NO: 61%
Not sure: 1%
They've now got a ridiculous song competition for children's road safety, sounds like more victim blaming a la the 'gory story' campaign a few years back instead of focusing on the culprits
