Documentary again

You may have seen previuos posts regarding a documentary in the making. We have interviewed a Physio, a dietician, a bike shop on preparation and now want to talk to someone who has done Lejog a few times in an effort to get some inside knowledge on how to choose a route, routes to consider and the different options depending on the time you have available - basically worldly advice to a newcomer to LEJOG/JOGLE

Anyone interested in 5-10 minutes of fame?

Would be really interested in seeing this documentary when its made. What are your plans for screening it? Will it be on UK TV / Satellite and what are your timeframes (please say before May next year which is when I have mine planned for).

This sounds like an excellent idea, good luck with it!

Don't worry it will be out later this summer with filming concluding in the next 3-4 weeks and post production / editing taking around 1 month.
I would anticipate further updates in a month, latest end of June.

We had a great time yesterday, all we talked about was BIKES! I went on and on and on, and Graham-the-camera-man filmed and directed us a we chatted away. The riders, Simon and Trevor, listened intently to me as I enthused over my favourite subject.

We discussed the route in minute detail, and I gave many an overview of the pluses and minuses of options through Wales or staying on the A38 to Worcester. Also the ins and outs of A82 versus A9. I told them about Shap and Berridale too.

Later, outside, we catted about kit and tools, spares and come-in-handies.

Well, here we are, my input finished for now. Actually, I plan to meet up with them again as they come through Launceston to Okehampton next Tuesday. Possibly a bit more filming of me then.

A very worthwhile day, and I'm sure the documentary, when it's released will be a must for every prospective LEJOGer.

As Mick says it was a very "enlightening" day for both Trevor and I - to have a forum legend all to ourselves for the day is probably the best pre trip prep anyone can ask for, the DVD/docu is certainly enriched with Mick's input.
We leave on the 12th May (next week - eekk!) and you can follow our progress on www.followsimon.com. Not that it really matters but although we have the luxury of a camera crew car we are loading the bikes for an unsupported trip so again, for us novice tourers, Micks input was crucial in what we need and need not take.

Ooh, I'm feeling for them now - they've just topped out Hamburger Hill (the steep bit of the A30 up to Indian Queens, the only three lane section). I would hate to cycle that, especially passing the junction half way up... Even cars struggle up there!

I met them yesterday afternoon as they approached Launceston. I escorted them into Devon on the Old A30 and shepherded them to the Travelodge at Sourton, just short of Okehampton.

Yes. they'd had problems with the A30 hills - quite steep and long considering it's a modern road. "Hamburger Hill" - real name "Highgate Hill" - is a killer! But there are other rotters on the road too!

A good ride for me - 59 miles. They'd done 95 before they'd finished for the day, most of it against a strong wind. The weather held out for them too, but it drizzled for me on my way home after I'd left them - I had a 20 mile ride home from Souton. I was quite wet by the time I got back - about 8pm - late for me!

The weather seems better today, the wind has dropped and it's dry. Last time I logged into www.followsimon.com they were leaving Exeter. They're following my suggestion of heading up the B3181 (Old A38) out of the city, then up the A38. They're aiming at Tewksbury for tonight.
