One success, one failure...
One success, one failure...
Home now after my wife successfully completed a 1000 odd mile and 15 day E2E via Arran. I had to pull out at Taunton with a strange hamstring tendon nerve injury. My wife plugged on whilst I followed on in a hire car. As my wife went through Cheddar Gorge, Bristol, Preston, Kendal, Arran, Oban, Inverness I went to 3 physios and 2 acupuncture sessions with a 'no hands' massage thrown in for good measure. I made the last 3 days from Inverness and enjoyed a couple of well earned pints in the Crask Inn.
So the E2E has escaped me this time, I'll go back and finish the route bit by bit hopefully this year and go through and plan it all again for another year to do in one go. I'm gutted but this doesn't overshadow my wife's achievement. Raised a few bob for our charities too.

Congratulations to your wife and commiserations to you. I like the sound of an E2E that takes in Arran!

Yes Spinners - its a route my wife has done before going to Mull. A ferry ride from Ardrossan means that you can miss the Glasgow/Edinburgh pinch points and it you go straight to the Islands. The other benefit is that you can visit the distillery whilst waiting for the ferry at the other end...

2 months self imposed rest - no improvement in the knee, one MRI later and I've found that I have a Grade 3 meniscal tear to the dorsal horn (for those of you that want to google that one) that requires surgery, so in hindsight I feel that I did quite well to knock off 400 odd miles in pain! LE - Taunton then Inverness - JOG.
Prognosis is good - so next year either Taunton to Inverness to fill the unridden gap - or have another go at a full LeJOG...
Can't fault the NHS so far.

Thanks Natural A. Informative stuff. Prognosis seems ok for cycling. Stitch up, tidy up and staple back together. It's irritating the nerve at th back of th knee so while its no big one walking it does get tender after 30miles or so of on th bike. Once it starts it doesn't let up!

Hi Mgate,
Any chance you could share the garmin maps for your route - hoping to do something similar next year.
Thanks

No Worries - have the first half ready to go. I'll send you the actual tracks so you have the elevation etc too. You may have to pm me your email while I sort something out...
