Aldi and Lidl workstands

Post by old picker »

Hi All,
Looks like along with the Aldi Special this Sunday, next Thursday, Lidl also has a Cycle special on. Both have Cycle workstands on offer £29.99. They are a little different. Anyone have either of the ones on offer and if so, which do you think is the best.
Thanks

I have been using the Lidl one heavily for a couple of years including for tandems. It has held up fine. I have made a small mod to mine to stop the clamp twisting under uneven load, but excellent especially at that price. It is aluminium and plastic and has not rusted.

Does the clamp rotate to hold the seat tube. As both the Aldi and Lidl ones picture holding the top tube.

The clamp does rotate, there is a clamp as can be seen on one of the lidl photos. I think they are the same apart from the Lidl one having a quick release on the tube clamp rather than a screw.

Black Dog Bikes do them as well. Their web site used to show the various different types, cant see the pages now, the only thing I can see is a rather confusing ebay listing with a table at the end http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HOME-MECHANIC ... 27c6f00845

My local Aldi (Bridgwater, Somerset) have several bike tool kits reduced, these are the workshop tools in a plastic case. Down from £20 to £15. Can't comment on the quality but if you don't have any tools these may be ok for starters.
They also have workstands reduced as well as some clothing. May not be at all stores but may be worth a look.
At the last count:- Peugeot 531 pro, Dawes Discovery Tandem, Dawes Kingpin X3, Raleigh 20 stowaway X2, 1965 Moulton deluxe, Falcon K2 MTB dropped bar tourer, Rudge Bi frame folder, Longstaff trike conversion on a Giant XTC 840 :D

Yes, but the bike has to be positioned to its centre of gravity - like the instructions tell you. If it isn't, it will just move to it. You haven't got the range of positioning that say, your LBS workstand has.

Aldi website says they've reduced the performance cycling gear that was on special a month or two back.
