Giant tough road

Post by whoof »

Has anyone ridden one of these or seen one in the flesh?
I've been considering a new tourer for a while but there is always something that I don't like about a certain model.
These seem to be like 29er mountain bikes with disk brakes. Personally I prefer drop bars and not sure about carbon forks with a low rider rack. Also the SLR1 (£900) has a double chainset albeit with a wide/low gear range of 42/28 and 11-36 cassette.

The cheaper (£700) has a triple chainset.

Lovely looking bike, but I share your reservations about carbon forks on a bike that is clearly aimed at taking you over rough terrain. The double chainset should be fine. It has the low gears you need, and that is what matters most. I like triples, but many prefer the simplicity of a double. It's down to personal preference. The same applies to the bars.
