A87 from Balmacara to Kyle of Lochalsh and Skye Bridge

Post by Pedalling Steph »

I am just about to venture off to Skye from Ratagan and had planned to take the longer route around Loch Druich. However, once we approach The Kyle on A87 I understand the road is busy and there is only a path along a small section. Can anyone comment on whether it really is unwise to go this way, or should we just go for it and plod up Beaulach Ratagan?

Personally I would prefer to enjoy the quiet, scenic road to Glenelg, have a look at the brochs (the best on the mainland) and take the little ferry to Kylerhea - over the sea to Skye! But then I don't mind hills, even if I have to get off and push up the steepest bits.

OTOH take the A87 and pass Eilean Donan castle (with no doubt lots of coach parties).

Have you already set out? Let us know how you get on.
