Cycling from Finland to Estonia

We two (wife and husband) are proposing to do this in April/May this year. It entails going through Russia, via St Petersburg. The enquiry here is really about cycling in Russia, or tyhis part of Russia. we are not strangers to cycling in different parts of Europe, having tacked the whole of the North Sea Cycle Route and cycled the length of Finland from the North. But is there anything special here, particularly in the way of potential problems and difficulties? We note (from booking.com) that accommodation, usually in hotels, is not expensive, and that there seem to be few campsites, but is rough camping an option or to be avoided? We would avaoid main roads, but what are minor roads like? One can think of many more questions - but - awaiting responses please! Tom and Katherine
