The signed Round the Island route offers a nice and very quiet alternative to the Military Road in summer.

Indeed it does. I ride the military road in winter when its quiet and the lanes are mucky, and the lanes in summer when they're cleaner and largely traffic free. Perfect arrangement!

I love the military road, especially in winter when there is very little traffic on it. It can get a bit busy in summer and motorcyclists tend to confuse it with the Isle of Man TT!

I'll be back! Thanks for the tips on locations for the Glanville Frit. I've heard there is a colony near Compton Down (?) and that was a cracking campsite I thought.
