Cycle Touring Festival Clitheroe

Post by Sweep »

Anyone know anything about this/have any views on it?

Seems to be very much a work in progress so they need to get their skates on:

https://cycletouringfestival.wordpress.com/

Tom of Tom's Bike Trip seems to be involved.

See the end of this post of his:

Sounds like it could be fun and it's always great to be around like-minded comrades.

I've booked it in and I'll leave work early on Friday and make my way up with a tent. I'm sure there's camping facilities near by or on site. Mrs HC can be in charge of the chickens, dog and kids for a change...........hc

I have to wonder how popular it'll be but I've certainly marked those dates and it's more or less just up the road from me :)

All being well the plan is for me to meet our Irish member 'jags' off the Dublin ferry at Liverpool. Then we will cycle to Clitheroe for the weekend.

Looking forward to meeting you all there!

Great opportunity for a mini cycle camping trip from Tyneside.

Just realised that it coincides with a Scottish trip, otherwise I would have been there.
May bank holiday weekend.

Hello all,

I'm Laura and I'm organising the festival, together with Tom Allen and a couple of others. More details will be announced very soon and tickets should go on sale at the end of January.

Glad people are excited about it, I am!

Please do sign up to the newsletter if you're thinking of coming (sign up at http://cycletouringfestival.co.uk/)

If there's anything you want to see there, let me know.

Thanks,

Laura

Er, are they really together on this?

Just had a look at the minimalist web page - at the top it says 2-3 May.

Then hardly any distance below 1-3 May.

Or have I missed something?

Sweep, I believe this is the inaugural event, so wouldn't worry about these anomalies too much. Worth checking out and an excuse to ride to Clitheroe if nothing else!

Mm

If they can't decide when the first one is there may not be a second.

Yes Clitheroe is nice.

I have certain connections with it.

I'm guessing that the actual event stuff will be on 2nd & 3rd but you can arrive on Friday 1st.

I wonder if you could also stay over til the 4th too, as that is a Bank Holiday.

Tour de yorkshire is 1-3 may , so might be a chance to double up. The TdY routes are not announced yet but could get within striking distance of clitheroe.

I trust there are no furtive yorkshire plans to reclaim territory.

It's my understanding that until relatively recently the lancs/yorks border was at brungerley bridge over the ribble.

The traditional boundary follows the Ribble with Yorks to the North and Lancs to the South. So, yes, Brungerley Bridge was on the boundary. It did go even further west though. The traditional boundary follows the Ribble west through Mitton, then up the Hodder splitting Bowland in half via several hill tops and the summits of the Trough and Cross O Greet roads.

Even today it is startling how close Yorkshire comes to Lancaster. As a former Garstang resident I shudder to think I was within 6 miles of being a Yorkshireman
