I just discovered a website for buying train tickets and booking bikes on TGVs in France - it's now possible to do so online. The 'official' SNCF website doesn't allow you to reserve a bike space, you have to phone them or visit one of their travel agencies. This website is independent of the SNCF but apparently the ticket prices are identical and they don't charge any commission: http://www.capitainetrain.com
(NB. Bikes are not accepted on all TGV trains)

Have you actually made a booking using this site ?
At first glance it certainly seems o.k - certainly a site like this would be useful for cyclists if it works.

I've booked train tickets using the website, but I've not yet needed to book a bike space.
It's becoming quite popular in France simply because the SNCF website is a bit of a nightmare to use and tries to make you buy travel insurance and book hotels and rental cars.
