What do you think of this bike?

Post by serbring »

Hi all,

I'm looking for a good bike for touring and bike commuting. In a local shop there is http://www.speedbikes.it/en/pd/metro/bike for 600€ and considering the components it seems interesting. Obviouslty it must adapted a bit for touring. What do yu think about it?

I think I would be suspicious of the suspension fork design.
With that kind of pivot I would suspect it could wear out very quickly.

If you want front suspension then I would stick with a proven design that has lasted years.

A few points if I may.....
Suspension forks. Why?
28 spoked rims. I'll take the extra 8 spokes in a 36 spoked wheel and it's extra few grams any day.
The mudguards look like strips of flat plastic.
The biggest offput.......no drop bars! Are you mad???

Thanks for your reply. Well I was interested for that bike mainly for the price, but your points are right: I'm also suspicious of that fork and I haven't found much information about that fork.

Fork has been around since 2011 at least....http://www.yumpu.com/fr/document/view/7165064/sr-suntour-swing-shock-owners-manual-2011

Wonder why we haven't heard of it?
I think it would "top out" under braking, like a leading link motorcycle fork
