Looks like a great bike, I hope it serves you well.

Despite doing a lot of research over the last year and have now almost completed my touring bike, I still think of myself as a beginner so always keen to learn more;

I remember looking at the Thorn Nomad mk2 and it had the similar low top tube, I thought at first I was looking a bike that was for a much smaller person but then noticed it was for people of my height. I think my concern would be that the seat post would act as a lever on the frame causing a lot more stress then a 'normal' bike, how true this is I don't know?
One big advantage your bike and other similar ones would have is the loading of the rear rack, you would have a lot more clearance for luggage over mine.

What it the actual name of this type of bike?

If it costs well into four figures and is made by Thorn it's called an expedition tourer :roll: Calling a spade a spade i'd call it a mtb based touring bike

the bottle mounts are a simple bolt on strap that goes around the frame and has a standard bottle mount thread in it. Hard to describe really. Not sure who makes it I got it from my local bike shop. It is not the most robust mount, but so far it has worked well. Ah found it, it is one of these:

Thanks for that , was contemplating how to get a third bottle onto my bike.

I have a similar configuration on my Kona Sutra. The Seat tube has a slot cut in it with a round end at the bottom (sorry no picture to hand). The idea is to disperse the stress and avoid the tube splitting. At least I believe this is the case, others may point out I am talking rubbish :oops:
