In Italy you can take your bike free on trains all Easter Monday.
I'm signed up for the FIAB (Italian CTC) newsletter (in Italian only, sorry).
Note: I've only skimmed the article, so don't blame me if I've got it wrong!
Bikes free on Italian trains Easter Monday
Re: Bikes free on Italian trains Easter Monday
Thanks for the info Helen if a bit specialist
Are you there now?
Or off on one of your interesting sounding trips?
It's all a bit pathetic to be honest though isn't it?
Especially when you consider that in the crowded London and South East you can take bikes for free outside peak hours.
And I've been on and led rides with 15 riders where we were all let on free even though the technical limit is less - they are generally very easy going.
Northern Rail also pretty good I think.
I can't remember the exact details but I think generally in Italy you have to either pay for your bike as virtually a separate person on a trip by trip basis or you have the option of buying a day pass for the thing.
In the bit of Italy I tend to cycle in the trains are very empty the majority of the time which makes the policy even more barmy.
Sorry - rant over - a beautiful country but my oh my.
I tend to think that the policy will change in time though when folk move on from car worship for several reasons.
