I agree, although I have never tried a Brooks saddle.

They're cheap enough at £18 for two pairs. I've decided I need to move away from padded shorts on tour, they just take too long to wash and dry.

Those look interesting - some of the comments reckon they aren't available in store - did you get yours in-store or online?

I always like to see things first.

+1 for the M&S Base Layer kit, although I've found the briefs more comfortable than the long trunks for cycling. Got mine online and delivered to local M&S Simply Food for free.

Ta for the info.

Will check out.

I assume M&s has its normal good returns policy if the sizing proves wrong.

Saw these in Decathlon today.

http://www.decathlon.co.uk/helium-boxer ... 97598.html

In the hiking section.

They don't feature the package enhancement of those M&S thingies but they looked like a possibility.

Pack/screw up small and they looked like they would wash/dry very well.

I would have bought a pair to test out but they were low on stock and didn't have my size.

Anyone tried them?

I too am experimenting with going padless - I have found that if I have the right saddle and have it adjusted correctly I don't necessarily need the padding - haven't tried this on really long rides yet.

Well spotted, I think I'll give them a try.

Thanks.

I look forward to your test report.

I'll check back in a week or so to see if they have restocked.

This surely calls for a picture?

What contact adhesive?

Sounds like a good idea.

Came across this thread in connection with something else.

A more on topic post of mine to follow very soon.

But am still interested.

Took me a while to find this thread to post but well worth my time as it was I think thanks to this thread that I headed off into the potentially perilous area of going unpadded.

For years have used a variety of padded undershorts which cost between £15 to £20 in prices of yesteryear, took ages to dry, and eventually the elastics tended to go.

And although they usually felt OK on the bike (before elastic went) they often felt a bit odd off the bike, especially in warmer climates.

Then discovered Aldi Seamless boxers (mens - for that's me - haven't explored women's underwear) - branded "Avenue".

Synthetic of course. The box in front of me says: 97% polyamide, 7% elastane.

As a special they are only available now and again but my local Aldi currently has them in.

Come in a box - two pairs for £3.99. Yes, less than £2 each.

I now have a ton - they wash and dry very easily.

Won't be wearing them with Rapha. I twin them with my favourite Mountain Equipment semi-long shorts. Or, this time of year, cycling tights.

I have tried Icebreaker merino boxers - very comfortable but crutch wore out in no time.

These are the best I have found so far for touring (Brooks saddle, no padding):

Hardwearing and comfortable, snug with no seams in the wrong place, easy to wash & dry. Only need invest in two pairs for touring. Highly recommended.

Andy.
