You might want to touch base with RonK at the Australian Cycling Forums. His blog can be found at http://wheelswhisper.blogspot.com.au/ I believe he has or has in mind a similar style of tour of the South Island.

Thanks Andrew. Yes, I'll be contacting Ron.

My Surly 26" disc trucker with Rohloff. Photo is it being cleaned in a river in Mali during my tour of Africa. I'm now in Kenya with it still heading South.

The new tourer - Focus Mares AX 5.0
DSCN5667tiny.jpg
.

Its a work in progress - I've dumped the stock Shimano Tiagra gear set and converted to Campagnolo (some old kit i had laying around which will be replaced with new over the winter.). The Deore disc brakes are terrible so they will be replaced with TRP hydraulic calipers and the Conti City Contacts are not very grippy so the wheels will be reshod quite soon! Tubus rack on the back - for the summer it'll get a Tara front rack too.

Its doubling up as the winter commuter - the SP8 dyno is great although the Axa headlight could do with being a bit brighter.
Convention? what's that then?

Just picked up a George Longstaff, tourer & have just started stripping it down, for a respray.. My better half say's I should think of moving in to our shed full time, with the amount of time I spend in there..Have two restoration projects on the go at the moment.. The Longstaff & a Moulton APB.. I know very little about the Longstaff, as the original owner sadly passed away..It's a 531 frame & it's got some pretty fancy lug work.. Hope to get it to Atlantic Boulevard in Bury, next week for the respray..Am awaiting a tweet from Longstaff, to confirm the colour as I want to return it has close as possible to the original factory finish.
