I ride with Butterfly bars on my Thorn Raven Nomad and used to have reservations... that was until I went to Corridori cycles in Epsom and had a BG Specialized bike fit. Now I'm perfectly set up for them and can really benefit from the range of comfortable riding positions they offer. I've had various issues getting them perfectly set up (with Rohloff shifter and brake levers) but now I'm pleased I made the switch. I'll be taking them up to Prudhoe Bay in May and will follow them down to Tierra Del Fuego... that's how much confidence I now have in the set up.
Check out http://forum.ctc.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=32793 for some opinions you may find interesting.
I also recommend deep tissue massage especially trigger point work to improve flexibility.
Thanks
