We are looking forward to our next family holiday (photo from last time) and are keen to know recommended visits/don't visits, good campsites, clever ideas etc. The juniors will be 10 and 12 (bikes upgraded already).

This campsite in Zeewolde is always nice >> http://www.natuurkampeerterreinen.nl/en ... dasselaar/ and its only 10-15 minutes ride from a supermarket. They had digital check in when I got there this summer which was a little weird :)

I've also stayed at a couple(natuurkamperterein) in Friesland, but can't really remember much about those, so they can't be too bad :D

I hope you have a tail wind on the afsluitdijk, I never seem to and its hell :)

I have a couple of photo's of parts of the route here >>> http://www.shanecycles.com/48-hour-ride ... challenge/ I recommend taking a little more time than I did 8)

Have fun, its a nice mix of polders, dikes and sleepy villages.

Thanks for your comments. I'm also making a note of Duinrell which will give the kids something to look forward too. The juries out on the islands at the moment. I want to visit but it's the usual thing of deciding what the route will be overall and deciding which bits to miss out (which is fine by me-I'm not sure whether some of it would be better done by train and it's just there to link the other pieces together).

As for doing the long dike at the top of the Issjelmeer- I've done it once already and have no need to spend most of a day being whinged at by the kids because they aren't enjoying it! So it will be the ferry from Einkhuizen to Stavoren or the islands for us I suspect!

When riding through the area, we both liked Elburg and Bunschoten. Zwolle is also close to your route and a very pretty place, as is Amersfoort.

Not sure when you are travelling but if, like us, you happen to be in Bunschoten on the first Saturday of September then you can take part in one of their "Fishery days":

Fishery days: Spakenburg pleasantly ‘goes back in time’
every first Saturday of September during the Visserijdagen
(fishery days), when fishing boats moor in the harbour
with their sails hoisted and with various trades and
traditional costume on display.

If you want some inspiration from our ride, have a look at our blog: https://www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/pag ... 89900&v=5S (read onwards to day 107).

Love CGOAB and I'm now happily reading your journal. Just annoys me that they didn't go for crazy gal on a bike instead!

Ps I enjoyed the 49.5 hour challenge too- crazy but I did get it.
