Dieppe

Post by sisavedbygrace »

I quite fancy a trip across the Channel for a ride in France, starting at Dieppe as that is the easiest destination for me to get to, can anyone recommend any nice routes to take?

I guess I should add that I'd like to ride on roads suitable for road bikes and which I can do in a day, just for a day trip :)

I second the avenue verte recommendation, it's an amazing route that links to paris. Probably the most obvious choice from Dieppe. I completed it a few months back ( my vid of the tour: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bps1dUt3EaI ). The Avenue verte route is fine for road bikes. If you're only cycling for one day then you might as well just cycle to forges les eaux and back [65 miles] (which is a nice town at the end of the old railway line (part of the AV route). Plus that old railway line part is all tarmac which is nice.

I would'nt disagree with the above suggestion but I believe the route from Dieppe to Rouen is better

65 kl Dieppe To Rouen then catch train back to Dieppe

Rouen is a beautiful medieval city

Use http://cycle.travel/ to plan the route and it goes through some stunning countryside

I have cycled extensively around the Dieppe area and beyond and can highly recommend it. Avenue Verte is the obvious and a very nice ride but link up with some of the surrounding roads and you have some great rides. This trip to Rouen beyond and back to Dieppe might provide some ideas: https://roundthebendpart1.wordpress.com ... june-2013/

pm me if you want any further info.

Thank you everyone the Avenue Verte and to Rouen sound amazing and I love the cycle.travel site to help plan a route.

Maybe one day I'll be able to go for a few days but for now a dash across the channel for a day trip will have to do, can't wait as planning for a trip one day in the summer next year
