Hi,
Does anyone have experience of cycling the southern US in the winter? And on using the Adventure Cycling route?
From my research temperatures look moderate for the time of year.
Regards,
Nigel

Re: US - Southern Tier
Hi Nigel
We rode the Southern Tier West to East this year Feb - June http://www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/southerncomfort and used the Adventure Cycling Map set. I was thinking about selling the maps if your interested, they are in excellent condition. If you have any questions about the route just ask.
Regards
Julie

Cycled it W-E in 2013. Mid March to early May. Got temps from 100f in California to below freezing in Silver City. Generally though temps were pretty comfortable shorts and T shirt weather. If I was doing it again I'd consider going slightly earlier but not much. I think the balance between high and low temps and daylight length was pretty good.
It is doable in winter but you have shorter days and a chance of snow and a few cold days in a row in the higher sections.
David Holmes did it Dec/Jan at the end of a longer tour and found it pretty cold at times.
