Favourite pier
Favourite pier
The is Weston Super-mare pier in Somerset which was refurbished after it was destroyed in a fire a few years ago. There are a lot around the UK and my nearest one is at Aberystwyth. They are great pieces of Britains heritage and maybe they have them in other parts of the world. If you have any pictures of piers preferably with your bike in the photo it would be very interesting.

Re: Favourite pier
Redcar on the North East coast used to have two piers. Both are gone now. The local council are presently constructing a 'vertical pier'. I would call that a tower but I guess PR people think Vertical pier sounds more sexy. www.gazettelive.co.uk/.../controversial ... starting-t

Re: Favourite pier
Llandudno (or however you spell it)....memories of childhood holidays and walking along the pier in storms, the water hitting the rocks below and exploding up through the planks of the walkway, parents shouting and children screaming as they dodged in and out of the jets, the Punch and Judy man chasing his both down the sea front in the wind, urbanite families freshly back from their epic expositions up the Great Orme, jumpers for goal posts, etc
Re: Favourite pier

Just like that. It's pronouncing it that people get wrong. "Hlandidno" is just about acceptable, but with it being in North Wales it's not quite correct.
Who was St. Tudno anyway?
Re: Favourite pier
Some Gog probably.
The one who established the church at Gt Orme (according to Wiki)
Now if you want to confuse people ask who was Saint Athan?

Re: Favourite pier
My favourite is the West Pier in Brighton. More a ex-pier really, but great for photos...
Re: Favourite pier
Burnham on Sea, claimed to be the shortest pier in the country - just down the road from Weston Super Mare.

Reminds me of a joke i heard as a lad, King George 5 was caught short when visiting a coal mine. The unfortunate miners at the bottom of the shaft remarked that he was the highest pier in the land.
