Membership messed up?

Sent off a postal order about 2 weeks ago for the 5 year membership, and asked that they send me an updated card. Well I got an envelope this morning with CTC on it, opened it with excitment (because I'm a saddo) only to discover the card says "exp 2011"

Sent an email this morning to member services. I thought the new card would say 2015, or do they send a new card each year? Seems a bit daft if they do send a new card each year.

AFAIK you should get a card with the relevant 5 year expiry date. I certainly did the last time I renewed a commuted membership.

Membership cards are sent automatically in advance with a letter asking you to renew. Did you jump the gun and send off your five year payment before the annual renewal letter arrived? If so it might be an auto-generated renewal letter.

I can remember having a five year card which was sent on the assumption that I'd renew a commuted membership. I swapped to family instead. I cannot recall whether I received a new card later that year or not but I certainly have at each annual renewal since.

I think gaz has the correct explanation. My five year membership expired in April 2009 and I received a further 5 year card with the reminder, the subscription quoted being a 5 year renewal charged at the full 5 years for 4 commuted rate, even though I was going to be 65 part way through the first year of the five. I mentioned it on here and got a PM with the very wise advice to keep it as simple as possible so as not to confuse anybody or wind myself up ie, wait till after my bithrday to renew, which I did, for one year only. It's coming up again now.

With discount for five years, and being unwaged, I could save quite a bit of dosh.

They must use a faily loose definition of unwaged. It seems to me there's a difference between 'not in paid employment' and 'unwaged.' Most organisations seem to take unwaged to mean eligible for means-tested benefits, such as Income-based Jobseekers or Income Support.

(I appreciate that the literal definition ought to mean 'not receiving a wage' but I don't think that's how it is generally interpreted. There are some pretty affluent people who don't clock on.)

Agree, but I spent years NOT joining CTC because I couldn't see the value or reason to join. When I rode my LEJOG and Back, I was pointed in CTCs direction because of the generous 3rd party insurance. That was the only reason I joined.

When I applied to join, they offered discount to the "unwaged". I took it without any qualms, and they offered it without any provisos or requiring any proof. I don't work, and I have a reasonable service pension. Mrs Mick F works full time and earns quite well.

As I said, the CTC must have a fairly loose definition of being unwaged. I wasn't having a go at you: only a mug ( ) would pay more than they had to.

OTOH, I could imagine somebody working full-time for the minimum wage might just be a bit miffed to know that other members with bigger incomes were benefiting from a rate often colloquially termed elsewhere as 'concessions.' I know occupational pensioners who pay higher rate tax, and I don't socialise with any high-fliers. Some of them are on megabucks in retirement. I don't suppose many belong to the CTC.

I do not think i will be resubbing TBH

I have yet to go out on a ride with the local club ,i find the information i get from the mag i tend to pick up on CC and BR forums and the discounts /liability are offered by the BCF with a promo code means i get the same stuff for £12 for the year rather than £37.

For me the CTC is over priced for what i get out of it.

Sorry chaps either get with the program and offer different levels of membership rather than a one size fits all fee.

I was a member for years. I added up all my membership fees and then worked out what benefits I had over the years. I am no longer a member.
